Back on the bike, moving forward with a new version of my online course "Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension"
For those of you who who are aware of my work, and those who may have taken my earlier courses, you may have been wondering where I disappeared to for a while. 2016/17 was a challenging time for me, I refer to it as my lost year. I had a serious bicycle accident followed by surgery and it took me a while to get back into my stride and back on my bike (which I am riding again).
Well, in that time, the developments in technologies like AR/VR/MR (or the umbrella term of XR) and others like Light Field Technology, have taken a big leap. So much material emerging daily, so many new blogs to listen to, so many conferences to potentially attend, it’s overwhelming to face the tide of information that is surging our way. For a while there I was questioning whether it might even be possible to distill that material into my online classes, especially in the format I had been working with which requires a great deal of time to prepare. I’ve also realized that for many people, including myself, it is helpful to listen to podcasts while at the gym or doing other chores that are of a more mechanical nature. I did a lot of this as I was rehabbing my shoulder and my knee.
So, I’m back, I have an updated version of my course “Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension” which is launching registration on February 12th, 2018, and classes begin on February 24th, 2018. I’ve changed the format of the classes somewhat to make it possible for me to keep bringing you the very latest information about these technologies but in a way that I can frequently update easily.
So first of all, I am now offering 6 live online sessions, one per week for approximately 2 hours plus 3 sections of the course in the earlier format. Those sections are foundational in nature and haven’t changed much. However, they are essential for your understanding of the newer technologies that are bursting forth all over the place. The live classes will be used for the latest media that are changing fast and will be recorded and uploaded to the course website the day after the class so you can view them at your leisure. I usually have students from around the world in many different time zones so this can be particularly helpful for those in Asia, the Far East, Australia and New Zealand. I will be using ZOOM for our sessions which will allow me to have a large number of you online with me, to screen share Keynote presentations, videos and white board if needed. You will be able to ask questions directly and the screen automatically puts the person speaking front and center. You end up with a nicely edited recording.
With each live session you will have access to supplemental material online that will give you links to many websites, Utubes and Vimeos as well as links to a range of relevant podcasts and content from many artists working in each of these fields. The material will take you much deeper than I can in the time allotted for the class sessions and it will be organized so that you can focus on the areas you are most interested in. Time is short for all of us and I hope that this new format will help you to find your way through the mass of material that is available out there to the content you are deeply interested in. I will also provide links to pdf’s of white paper’s, professional surveys and lists of relevant conferences that you might want to attend, and of course many links to 360, VR, AR content by artists and filmmakers.
So, I invite you to check it out, take a look at my website, www.artinthe5thdimension.com and sign up for my mailing list or go directly to the sign up for the course where you can enroll. I will be sending out emails in a couple of days about the FREE online session I will be offering on February 17th, 2018 and I hope that I will see some of you there. I will be taking a journey through some of the latest technological developments that we will be studying in greater depth during the course and will be happy to answer any of your questions.
One more thing - in order to maintain a flow of updated information about these technologies after you finish this course I am planning to offer a bimonthly (maybe monthly later) seminar just for you and other future students.
Watch out for future blog posts with more details.
For those of us who have been following the developments in Holography, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and other 4th Dimensional Media there has been an awareness for some time that 2016 will be the time when the public will become truly aware of this technology. Many manufacturers have been gearing up for this moment and CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) is the place where they launch all of their new products. It is truly an overwhelming event that boggles the mind in terms of it's size and ever increasing range of electronic tools that are geared to influence our daily lives and this year portends to be the big one for Immersive, 4th Dimensional Media.
So why is this important, what's so special about these new technologies, why do I think they will have such an impact on our lives?Join with me as I explore CES over the next few days, looking at the new headsets, cameras, interactive devices, and discussing how they figure in our daily lives and how they will change our world. I will be posting pieces in all of the groups I belong to on LinkedIn, inviting one and all to join me as I explain the significance of all of these new developments. You can keep up with them on my blog here at www.artinthe5thdimension.com as I will add all of these posts here.
I also invite you to join in this discussion, add your comments and expertise and prepare yourselves for the next shift - it is going to be a big one and it will have far reaching consequences for our evolution as a species. Join me as we take a step forward into a new way of perceiving our world and of ultimately expanding our consciousness as a species.
We are on the edge of a wave of new technology. It is already racing towards us and it will bring many new opportunities. We are stepping into a new realm, beyond Stereo 3D, beyond Stereo Sound, a moving, interactive, immersive realm that promises a new level communication, education, training, tools for business, tools for aiding in medical diagnosis and in healing, tools for art and creativity, new media for artistic expression and much much more.
It is hard to believe that it has only been 8 years since the iphone was launched and only 5 years since we first saw the ipad. Look at how that technology has been so integrated into our modern society, world wide,
700 million iphones have been sold since 2007.
So, given the accelerating rate of technological development, it is quite logical to expect that this next wave of technology may happen even faster. But what is this next stage? It's not just a new Apple product, or even a group of technologies, we are looking at something much bigger, a paradigm shift, a shift from one way of thinking to another and it involves the 4th Dimension.
I invite you to follow on my blog at http://www.artinthe5thdimension.com/blog as I begin to discuss just what is the 4th dimension and to look at why it is we should be really paying attention.
Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension - Pilot Program for a New Format Launching 11/11/15 at a One Time Low Price of $297
This is a pilot course designed to prepare you for the wave of new media that will be descending upon us in 2016. The full course will be launched in January 2016 with a fee of $597 but in return for giving me feedback on your experiences in this course I am offering a discounted price of $297.
We are at the start of a large wave of constantly evolving technology. It is already gaining momentum. The daily influx of news is already sizable and ranges from poorly informed to highly technical, full of it’s own jargon and confusing.
A shift is about to happen though as we pass from the stage of reading about what this equipment / software will do to the next phase where people have invested in the technology (VR, AR headsets, 360 cameras, auto stereo etc.) and are eager for content. There will be a vacuum at that point and a real need for individuals who understand how all of this magical stuff works. Jumping in now and riding that wave will place you ahead of the curve, ready to knowledgeably guide others as they tentatively explore the wide array of delicious tools being presented to them.
"Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension" will give you the knowledge to cut through the hype and mis-information that currently abounds about many of these technologies and allow you to accurately assess the capacity of a particular product to deliver what you desire. You will learn to focus on your next step, making choices about which of these media you might want to pursue in greater depth. You will also learn the tools to make decisions about which of these media might be appropriate for a particular client and to select experts in each field who can help you to create projects.
"Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension" is designed to bring you up to speed with the new media that are now providing a range of immersive and dimensional experiences. These include Holography, Virtual Reality, Pepper's Ghost, Stereo, Lenticular Images, Autostereo, Volumetric Images, 360 Immersive Filmmaking, Light Field Technology, Augmented Reality, 3D Projection Mapping and an assortment of supporting technologies that make these media accessible.
With each weekly section of the course you will receive:
Completing this course will place you in a position to knowledgeably ride the wave of new technology that will be landing on our shores in the first quarter of 2016. This knowledge will make you an attractive employee for companies who are interested in using these media and I will provide certificates of completion to all who finish the course.
In January - this course will be launched at the full price of $597.
Because I am looking for a special group of students, I am offering this course as a pilot at a special introductory price of $297. This is a one-time pilot price, and I will not offer this opportunity again. You are required to provide feedback to help shape the course - which is why there are only a limited amount of seats available.
The nature of the media we are diving into is such that we must expect an ongoing evolutionary process.
With your purchase into the pilot program:
You will also get full access to the "Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension" main course when it's launched. The course will be continually updated. Enrollment in this and any of my future courses will allow you to review the material at any time after the course is over (including all updates). This is an ongoing commitment I make to all of my students.
So join me November 11th, jump in and explore the many new possibilities that are opening up.
