An introduction to the next generation of media: Holograms, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Lenticular Images, Autostereo, Volumetric Images, 3D Projection Mapping, Pepper’s Ghost.
Instructor: Linda Law, Digital / Holographic Artist, Writer, Educator, Consultant
Join me for my online course designed to bring you up to speed with these new media. This is an 8 session online course with weekly two hour classes in which we will take a detailed look at these new media tools. In this course you will build an understanding of how each of these technologies work (and how they interrelate), see a range of applications, and explore the work of leading design companies and artists who work with these technologies. From these classes you will build a base of knowledge that will enable you to make appropriate and educated decisions for your own use or for your clients.
This initial course will be followed by a series of courses that will focus in greater depth on each of these topics in turn. Dates and details of these classes will be announced later.
Tools for Creating in the 4th Dimension begins April 18th, time to be decided yet depending on the time zones that my students will be logging in from.
The tentative dates are:
April 25th, 1. Holograms
May 2nd 2. Pepper’s Ghost
May 9th, 3. Lenticular Images
May 30th, 4. Autostereo, Volumetric Displays, 3D Projection Mapping
June 6th, 5. Supporting Technologies
June 13th, 6. Augmented Reality
June 20th, 7. Virtual Reality
June 27th, 8. Visioning the Future
The fee for the course is $600 but if you sign up before midnight April 20th, and pay in full, you can register for the course for a reduced fee of $500.
All classes will be recorded and made available to students within a few days after the class.

This new report confirms what I keep stressing - with all these new displays the greatest need is for content!
This article caught my eye and I thought I would pass it on. With this projected market it so obvious to me that there are masses of opportunities emerging for great 3D content. However, creating immersive 3D environments is quite different from creating 3D animation for a 2D screen. New ways of telling stories in 3D are evolving but it is a great time for all artists/designers/architects/film-makers to jump in with both feet and invent their own. Join me for my newly forming class on "Creating Content in the 4th Dimension" which will begin at the end of March. Further details to come shortly.
3D Displays Market Will Soar Above $110,000,000,000 in 2020Posted in 3D Market & Trends
According to a new report by Allied Market Research, the global 3D Display market is expected to reach $112.9 billion by 2020, growing 26.8% each year until then. TVs and smartphones will drive the 3D stereoscopic display market significantly by year 2020, contributing more than 2/3rd of overall market revenue collectively.
Report Title: "Global 3D Display Market - Size, Industry Analysis, Trends, Opportunities, Growth and Forecast, 2013 - 2020"
LEDs and OLEDs Will DominateAmong all types of 3D displays which includes volumetric, stereoscopic and HMD; the stereoscopic and auto-stereoscopic displays should remain the most preferred type of 3D display due to their applications in TVs, smartphones and monitors. The LED backlighted LCD technology products are commonly used for 3D displays, which would experience further increase in its adoption due to compact and energy efficient solution against CCFL backlighting. The CCFL technology should be completely replaced by LED backlighting by 2015. The modern technology OLED would gain surge in terms of adoption, and experience fastest growth over the forecast period.
